The GIVER: From the pages to On Screen.

Brace yourself class 10 students of 2014 because this year your English 2 subject will be much more fun. The novel Giver that you have as a part of your subject will not only be on the pages but on screen as well. Yes, the Hollywood has done it again. The best seller Lois Lowry's book has now been adapted into a movie. And for those who has already done with 10 standard or who has had the 'Giver' as your favorite novel, let your memories be retrived back with Jonas and the weird community.

I am in no doubt that the novel 'Giver' would have been an essential part for all especially the Bhutanese students because not only was it a compulsory part of a subject and not only the stroy in it was fun, weird and interesting, but for most, it was the first( actually second novel after DAWA..:P) one would have ever read or completed reading fully. Right?? Hehe!.

Anyways, for me personally, I read novels before that but never completed anyone fully. But 'Dawa' I did. Yes!! So, "Giver" comes second in the list. During class 10, i read it not once, not twice but thrice( one in mid- term, another on trial and finally on annual..hehe!!). But actually, after that i read it three more times because i enjoyed every time i read. I still remember how i wished it to be adapted into movies. I had my own imagination of Jonas,Lily, Asher, Fiona, Larissa, chief leader, community, crews, and of course the Giver as the picture of the old man on the front cover every time I read. Now, those might get replaced after I watch the movie but I am very much excited to meet them visually.

The release date has been fixed to 15th August. The Trailer is a Blast!! Camera effects and cinematographies seems perfectly placed upon. Unfortunately, Raichur theatres won't hit the movie. I would either have to travel 180 km to watch or wait till it is available for download. Well, i am eagerly waiting for the moment to meet the Jonas' community.

B.A Pass.

The title of the movie imaged my thoughts to a young B.A college student struggling with the demand and supply curves of economics and commercial mathematical problems of commerce to obtain the degree certificate in business administration. But the plots pours out to be totally contrasting. I wonder what connection did the title and movie actually had?

"Early lost of both parents does not seem to be an accident nor a death call, just seem to be a betrayal, who played the treachery, it remains a mystery", narrator begins the story with the line on an unfaithful dark day with his parents picture curved  with flowers infront. Mukesh is left orphaned along with his two teenage sisters, without complete degree, unemployed and struggling on burdened shoulders of his maternal aunt.

Aunt, having lost her strength to hang on with the burden, sends two sisters to "Home", a place where young girls without proper guardian are looked after. But instead, the girls soon come to realize the sort of activities going on there and  how mischievously the place was running and rather find unsafe to be there. Mukesh, desperately in need of money to rescue her sisters, finds no other path but enters into the world of male prostitution. He introduces himself into the sex industry with the help of the lady name "Sarika".

The poison of necessity and desperateness not only leads women into such paths but even men. Houses to houses, platform to platform, he knocks the door of rich wives with the fragrance of money flowing in the air, quenching their thirst of pleasure and taking back with him, his two to three hours hard earned action salary.

For sometime, everything runs smoothly and he finally decides to bring his sisters back.But the cruel game of betrayal once again plays with his life.His friend runs away with his money within a speck of seconds without his knowledge, having put his trust completely on him, only to realize later that the pot he was feeding on was actually feeding from him, playing with his innocence and he was now left with only a hollow well of pot, full of emptiness. He breaks off completely. In the mean time, he receives call from his sisters saying they are on their way to reach his place anytime. Buzz of confusion, fear, anger and sadness run through his head. In a state of such confusions and head spinning situation, he lands up killing "Sarika" . One after another, arrow of problems prick  him all over. Craziness crosses the limit, height of desperateness reaches its maximum and he finally sees nothing infront. He closes his eyes and lean forward to let himself fall, fall into the world, free of suffering, following the steps of his dead parents, he kills himself.

 Lust of sexual energy runs through in the beginning having to witness lustful scenes but the ending leaves the viewers with the thought of betrayal, struggle, and harsh realities of life one has to go through if the coin of our fate turns out to be rusted.

The Movie is adapted from the short story "Railway Aunty" written by Mohan Sikka who is a writer and artist based in NY, sketching mainly the social and familial relationships.

Happiness....... Togetherness.......

Father, fist of the family bound by his strong love philosophy and clean heart, heads his family with radiation of  happiness shining from all sides. Supported by his other half, his wife guided by her own principles of running the family by keeping the mind and body of all members together nurtured with bubbles of love poured in hearts of all.
Placed on the palanquin garden of paradise, father and mother are considered gods by their four children. More of friends than siblings are how these childrens live by. A big joint family of in laws, chacha, chachi(paternal uncle and aunt) , mama, mami,(maternal uncle and aunt) family doctor, friends are all crumbled together in being love with the family where laughter and smiles guides the air inside  " Home" .
This is what we call "Hum saath saath hai"(togetherness).

The 1999 bollywood movie "hum saath saath hai" featuring various artist including Salman khan,Saif ali khan, Tabu, Karishma Kapoor, Sonali Bendre is one movie where there is no emotional family drama at all and all in all, from first to end, movie is an example of  how a  family bound with love and understanding can fight against all odds.

Respect for parents, elders , love, care and attention for children, between spouses, friends and all family members be it even a servant, is what keeps the Home "Home" and not just the rented "house". You enter a home and you start hearing laughter and smiles all around, even a stranger coming for the first time feels lighter in heart to evenly except the tea offer directly without having to hesitantly say "no, it's fine" 3 to 4 times finally to accept.
But this movie also shows how a small stain of negative thoughts against a family member will ruin the love and respect going on strong for so many years just within a second. It will effect not only two or three people, but all the members who had been interconnected emotionally to the family. This we can see in most of the Bhutanese families . Why do we see an old father sitting on a bus station public seat having said to be thrown out of house by son, daughter or in laws? Why do we hear the cases between siblings fighting for the lands and properties. Why do we encounter dozens of small  children roaming in streets with bare foot, teenagers drooled on with drugs?

Hum 7 7 hai shows the answer of why. There will be handful of people pouring in negativity into our hearts, we would encounter situations or moments of despair, we might be hated by our loved ones , we might be discouraged, but as long as we trust each other and keep our mind clean without hatred, even an excavator like stone hard machine would thick twice before eyeing the house. Love cleanses all dirt in mind. Smile refreshes the mood and laughter brightens the dullness. That is how we will always be 'HUM SAATH SAATH HAI".

Blog for change

Just like 'toast for change', 'taste for change' and 'dance for change', i chose to keep the title of my blog today as 'Blog for change' because i believe myself also to be a" freedom writer".
Since the day i read a review on this movie "freedom writers" in Sir Passu's blog few months ago, i had been searching to get hold of it. Luckily i got it just after a month i read about it.
Most of you must have read and watched the movie as well. I, too, have been straining my eyes time and again with this movie which, every time i watch awakens something powerful inside me( yet to discover that powerful thing...wink!!). That is why i wanted to give my own review on the movie to be shared online with my fellow readers.

Miss. Erin Gruwell

With a fight among the students, Miss Gruwell's first class in the school starts. Class divided into groups of different racial origin and everyone with hot burning grudge against each other, ever ready to start a battle. She tries hard to make the class peaceful and interesting. Instead of just lectures, she let the students understand her lessons through audio visual clips and through games. During one of her class, to bring some union among the parted class, she organizes a game where she let  them  stand on the line made on the floor if the question she ask correlates to their lives. A turning point strikes in which one of  her question silences the whole mood of the class. "How many of you have lost your loved ones, your friends, in a fight?". 90% of the students stands on the line. There, everyone realizes that they were not alone in case of losing someone they loved and understood the impact,  fights and angers brought in their lives.

To each one of them, she gives a diary where she tells them to write anything they want but to write and maintain everyday. All of the students come forward and jot down their own share of sorrow  they faced in their personal lives. By doing a part time job, Miss.G( as mentioned by students) buys the book " Diary of Anne Frank" and hand over each copy to the students and ask them to relate it to their lives. She takes them to the museum and shows the clips of the people who fought discrimination and racism during early centuries and what impact that brought to them. The constant hard work of Miss G pays off and soon she finds her students shining with positive changes. Everyone finds a reason to correct their lives. Miss G gains trust from all her students BUT unfortunately, the knot of her own  personal life loosens under the hands of unpredictable fate where she gets divorced with her husband. 
Despite all of that, she continues to support her class. She is a great inspiration to all the teachers around the world and  a picture form of example to the students to understand the difficulties, a teacher has to go through. 
The" freedom writer diary" depicts that we are not alone who come across disastrous challenges in life and teaches us how to tackle them.
